GK Sculptor
Beginning with a large chunk of wood or log, Graeme uses a chainsaw to rough-out his initial form, after which he uses rasps and chisels to refine it. Then he sands the sculpture by hand until the area he wants smooth feels like silk. In the final stages of sculpting, he repeatedly oils his creation and hand-rubs and buffs it until it achieves the texture and grain quality that raises his art to its most perfect, sensuous level. From the West Coast to the East, Graeme’s sculptures are informed by the rivers, lakes and mountains of our Canadian wilderness. Each piece is unique given that it is individually inspired by its own hidden inner spirit, which Graeme awakens and then teases out of the wood, until it is finally revealed for us to share and celebrate. In the same way, his work is infused with the goal of challenging those who engage with it to immerse themselves, through heightened sensory experience, in possibilities of alternate visions of ourselves and our world. Graeme’s sculptures have been exhibited across Canada where they continue to garner positive critical attention and acclaim. They can be found in many private collections across the country.
